Huntington University power outage

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) — A power outage occurred at 5 p.m. on the campus of Huntington University.

The Merillat Center of Arts building (MCA) was one of the buildings that was affected by the outage. After the building lost power, there was a back-up generator that started automatically.

The Huntington internet router also shut off because of the outage. Some students were not able to work in the building for hours after the outage occurred. Some technology in the building did not go back to their original settings and that made some students go to different buildings to do work on campus.

Emma Fried was in the MCA when the power first went off and told FDN that she was done with the work that she was doing, but she was a little frightened when it all happened.

The power has yet to be restored and the MCA is running on generators.

Bowling team goes for gold

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) — On February 22 Huntington University’s bowling team was announced they would be bowling in sectionals in Addison, IL.

The regular season tournaments have ended and left the women’s team ranked 62 out of 124 and the men’s team 44 out of 167. Only the top 64 teams get to move on to sectionals.

The season ended with senior Brooke Ewing scoring the highest average with a 192 and freshman Thomas Gunter with a 197.

While the women’s team has only one senior, the men’s team will be losing Derek Beckler, Daniel Miller, Joe Miller, Seth Walker, Jess Meyers, Adam Shoemaker and Colin Madden as they graduate this May.

With only a few tournaments left, the team is working hard towards sectionals and NAIA Nationals.

Not only are the teammates putting in their time on the lanes but equally as much on their academics.

Daniel Miller, Joe Miller, Derek Beckler, Shelby Price, Brianna Fish and Heidi Tucker were all recognized as Honor Athletes.
